American runner wins Penghu cross-sea marathon men’s event

Taipei, Nov. 19 (CNA) Jorge Maravilla of the United States won a men’s marathon that attracted 355 foreign and local runners on Taiwan’s outlying archipelago of Penghu in the Taiwan Strait on Sunday.

Maravilla, from California, also won the 2017 San Francisco marathon and has qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020. He finished the 42.195-kilometer race in 2 hours, 43 minutes and 7 seconds, according to the organizers.

Japanese Teruto Taya came second, 24 seconds behind Maravilla.

In the women’s event, Taiwan’s Hu Ching-ting (胡靜婷) finished first in 3:30:42.
