TAIPEI, Taiwan — A shooting incident outside the house of a couple, both of who worked at a
local cable television station, left one dead and the other injured yesterday evening in Chiayi County, with the suspect still on the loose as of press time.
Local cable TV station SJTV (信吉衛星電視台) program producer and photographer Chen Hsin-yu (陳信裕) and his wife Lu Hsiu-yun (呂秀雲), a program host at the station, were shot outside of their home in Taibao City. Chen was pronounced dead, and Lu sustained minor injuries.
As of press time, police authorities are following a lead on a suspect, surnamed Yang, who’s around 40 years of age with a medium build and was reportedly wearing a long-sleeved hoodie with light-colored pants at the time of the shooting.
Authorities believe the couple and the suspect were acquainted, as both sides had engaged in a conversation prior to the shooting, upon further investigation of surveillance footage.
According to local media, the police believe Yang’s alleged motive stemmed from relationship quarrels. Colleagues at the TV station revealed that the couple had requested leave in the afternoon to help handle Lu’s sister’s relationship problems with Yang, who lives in Chiayi’s Jhong Pu Township.
