TAIPEI, Taiwan — Premier Mao Chi-kuo (毛治國) announced yesterday that despite the rainfall that many believe has helped alleviate the drought this past week, the phase-three water restriction project will be carried out on April 1 as it was scheduled to.
Already two stages into the water rationing program due to the drought that began at the end of autumn, phase three is slated to restrict water usage in areas supplied by the Shihmen Reservoir, namely districts in New Taipei City (Banqiao, Xinzhuang and Linkou) and Taoyuan.
“The rainfall this week had fallen mostly on flat lands, contributing only a limited portion to the water reservoirs in need. The areas that depend on the Shihmen Reservoir are still in a rough stage,” said Mao. [FULL STORY]
