Towerrunning World Championships in May, a spokesman for the building told CNA.

Taipei 101 has won the right to host the Towerrunning World Association’s (TWA) highest level competition on May 5, Taipei 101 spokesman Michael Liu (劉家豪) said recently, and he anticipated it will be an excellent test for the world’s top stair runners.

It will be only the second time a world championship has been held in the sport, following the debut event in Doha in 2015, and 60 elite stair runners from around the world and 100 Taiwanese athletes are expected to compete, Liu said.

Taipei 101 has held a stair-climbing race annually since 2005, and with 91 floors, 2,046 stairs and a vertical height of 390 meters to scale, it has emerged as one of the world’s most difficult climbing challenges.   [FULL  STORY]
