Taiwan wins big at 54th Golden Horse Awards

Taiwanese crime thriller The Bold, The Corrupt and The Beautiful was the biggest winner

at the 54th Golden Horse Awards in Taipei on Saturday night. The awards are the highlight of the calendar in Chinese-language cinema and Taiwan did better in several categories this year than it has for some time.

The Bold, The Corrupt and The Beautiful from Taiwanese director Yang Ya-che was nominated for seven awards and won three, including best film. Kara Wai from Hong Kong and Taiwan-born Vicky Chen took home best actress and best supporting actress respectively for their roles in the movie.

Another big winner from Taiwan on the night was director Huang Hsin-yao. His film The Great Buddha + won best adapted screenplay, best original film score, best original film song and best cinematography. Huang also took home the award for best new director.
