Tsai marks Human Rights Day, speaks about transitional justice

about Taiwan’s National Human Rights Museum, which is slated to open in May, and newly passed legislation which will pave the way for transitional justice.

The Act on Promoting Transitional Justice, which passed Tuesday, provides a structure for dealing with the injustices of the authoritarian period in Taiwan. That period of one-party rule began in 1945 and lasted for more than four decades.

President Tsai says the new legislation is a milestone in Taiwan’s democratic history. She says it is not aimed at causing political struggle and that she hopes the public will no longer harbor hatred because of the sad chapter in Taiwan’s history.    [FULL  STORY]
