TAIPEI — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC,台積電)topped the list of companies in the manufacturing industry traded in Taiwan’s over-the-counter and listed stock markets in terms of research and development investment last year, according to data published on Wednesday by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The company spent NT$56.8 billion (US$1.82 billion), a year-on-year growth of 18.1 percent. It was followed by Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (鴻海), which spent NT$48.9 billion, the data shows.
IC designer MediaTek Inc. (聯發科)came in third, spending NT$43.3 billion, a whopping growth of 63.8 percent year-on-year. Its R&D spending accounted for 20.3 percent of its business revenues, the highest ratio among the top five R&D investors. [FULL STORY]
