Workers see child-raising as expensive: survey

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Office workers in Taiwan believe that raising a child until he or she reaches the age of 20 could cost them up to NT$6 million (US$194,000), a survey by local online human resources company yes123 said Saturday.

The average cost deemed necessary for raising a child is NT$5.73 million, according to the survey, which collected 1,656 online questionnaires between March 16 and March 30.

For those who live in Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung, the standard is considered higher at NT$6.01 million, the company found.     [FULL  STORY]
