Taipei, April 18 (CNA) Several areas in Taiwan could see afternoon showers and strong gusts on Sunday, the Central Weather Bureau said Saturday.

Mountainous areas in northern, central and northeastern Taiwan could experience brief showers, forecasters said.

Wind speed in coastal areas in northwestern, eastern, southeastern Taiwan, along with outlying Matsu, Green Island and Orchid Island could reach 90 kilometers per hour, the bureau said.

Temperatures could range from 23-35 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, 24-34 degrees in central Taiwan and 24-31 degrees in southern Taiwan, it said.

Still heavier rainfall is expected beginning on Monday due to an approaching cold front, it said, adding that highs could drop by some 10 degrees on Tuesday.
