Taipei, May 16 (CNA) The biennial International Boxing Association (AIBA) Women’s Junior and Youth World Boxing Championships opened Saturday in New Taipei City, marking the first time that an international boxing championship is being held in Taiwan.

“This is the first time Taiwan has been selected to host the boxing world championships. We are delighted to host this event and bring the excitement of world-class boxing competition to sport enthusiasts in Taiwan,” Ho Jow-fei (何卓飛), director-general of Taiwan’s Sports Administration, said at the opening ceremony.

AIBA President Wu Ching-kuo (吳經國), who also attended the opening, said boxing is now one of the top Olympic sports thanks to the efforts of AIBA members.     [FULL  STORY]
