computer-generated video shows the People Liberation Army attacking a US military base.
The six-minute video, titled “Battle to Capture an Island: a Full View of Chinese Military Strength” and produced in a similar style to a war video game, was released around the same time the PLA showcased a wide array of powerful new weaponry at the military parade in Beijing on Sept. 3 to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Set in an unspecified year of this century, the opening of the video declares that an unnamed country has broken international law in the seas off mainland China, with several Chinese bases coming under attack. An angry fist is seen pounding a table before the video announces China’s intentions to “comprehensively fight back” with full force to promote “peace through war.”
The ensuing montage of combat operations depicts and labels genuine PLA hardware such as the DF-15B short-range ballistic missile as well as a CJ-20 land-attack cruise missile being fired from a H-6K bomber. The targets of the counterattack include a fighter jet very similar in appearance to an American F-22 Raptor and a fleet escorting a lookalike of a US Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.
