Government to hold disaster prevention exercises in September

Taipei, August 6 (CNA) The government plans to hold disaster prevention exercises in September to improve public readiness to respond to natural disasters, according to the Disaster Prevention Planning Office of the Cabinet.

The exercises will be held from September 21-23, and will include a series of disaster prevention events, including an online earthquake evacuation drill, earthquake evacuation drills in campuses around Taiwan, responding a tsunami warning and the distribution of post-disaster rescue and relief materials in cooperation with convenience stores.

The online earthquake evacuation drill is a new electronic disaster prevention system recently developed by the Ministry of the Interior through a new website launched on Aug. 1 – http://www.comedrill.com.tw/. This offers individuals and organizations a convenient way to practice and perfect their earthquake evacuation readiness. (By Wang Cheng-chung and Brook Hsiao)
