Interior ministry offers support for Universiade security

ahead of the 2017 Summer Universiade. The international sporting event for university students is second only to the Olympics in scale, and is set to take place in Taipei, from August 19 – 30.

The interior ministry is planning to open the Central Security Command Center for the games on the same day that the athletes’ village opens. Interior Minister Yeh Jiunn-rong will oversee operations, while the police and various government agencies will offer support.

Yeh said that the Taipei City Government, which is hosting the games, has already created an overall security plan, following a directive from the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The plan incorporates not only the police, but also advanced technology, including drones, explosives detectors, and explosion-proof robots. The National Immigration Agency will also help control the nation’s borders and manage counter-terrorism intelligence.     [FULL STORY]
