Kazakhstani cyclist wins 2nd stage of Tour de Taiwan

Taipei, March 7 (CNA) Stepan Astafyev from Kazakhstan ran away from the 201603070019t0001field in the second stage of the Tour de Taiwan road race in New Taipei on Monday to take control of the yellow jersey.

The 22-year-old Astafyev, a member of the VINO 4-Ever SKO cycling team, completed the 116.37-kilometer stage along the northern coast of Taiwan in a time of two hours, 47 minutes and 59 seconds, 2 minutes and 26 seconds ahead of a pack of 67 riders.

That left Astayev with an overall lead of 1:32 over Carlos Alzate of Colombia with three stages of the five-stage race left.

Another nine riders were within two minutes of the leader in the overall standings.     [FULL  STORY]
