Kinmen celebrates oyster shucking contest, 1,000 fans happy as clams

TAIPEI–A cultural festival featuring oysters and wheat opened in Jinning Township, in outlying Kinmen County Saturday, attracting some 1,000 people to experience the pleasures of pastoral life.

The centerpiece of the annual festival is an oyster shucking competition, which drew 1,000 people who formed a line about 200-meters long on a great oyster farm in Beishan Village to shuck approximately 6,000 kilograms of shelled oysters.

Film director Leon Dai, who is on a private trip to the outlying island, also took part in the event which attracted a crowd of a wide range of ages, with a four-year-old boy being the youngest.      [FULL  STORY]
