TAIPEI — Candie Kung (龔怡萍) of Taiwan shot a final round 3-under 69 on a windy and rainy day at the

Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship in Linkou on Sunday to end up in a three-way tie for fifth, the best finish of any of the 20 Taiwanese entered in the event.

The result was the best for any Taiwanese golfer at the LPGA tournament in Taiwan since Yani Tseng (曾雅妮) won it in 2011, the first year it was held.

Kung finished the day at 9-under for the tournament, eight shots behind the winner Jang Ha-na of South Korea, who shot a 1-under 71 in the final round for a winning score of 17-under 271.

Feng Shanshan of China was second at 16-under, while Brooke Henderson of Canada and Kim Hyo-joo of South Korea were tied for third at 10-under.

Lee-Anne Pace of South Africa and Park Hee-young of South Korea were tied for fifth with Kung at 9-under.

Kung, who had to overcome numbness in her fingers on her right hand resulting from a nerve problem suffered last month, said she was happy with her performance at the US$2 million tournament, especially in fighting what she described as “chaotic” conditions.     [FULL  STORY]
