Martial Arts & Sports Festival held in Yunlin

Taipei, Aug. 29 (CNA) The 2015 Martial Arts & Sports Festival was held in Yunlin County’s 201508290017t0001Siluo township (西螺) Saturday.

The event was co-organized by the Yunlin County government and the Republic of China Sports Federation (ROCSF).

The county government said it hoped the event would help encourage martial arts training and exchanges and thus promote physical fitness.

According to the ROCSF, martial arts training was very prevalent in Siluo during the Qing Dynasty or in the early 19th century. At that time, there were three main martial arts sects in the area: Chen Hsing (振興), Chin Hsi (勤習) and Wu Yeh (武野). These three sects later developed into four martial arts schools: Chin Hsi Tang (勤習堂), Chen Hsing She (振興社), Wu Yeh Kuan (武野館) and Chen Hsing Kuan (振興館).     [FULL  STORY]
