Nation’s flag to be allowed at 2017 Summer Universiade

The national flag of the Republic of China (ROC), which is the official name of Taiwan, will be allowed at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei. That was the word from the head of Taiwan’s Sports Administration, Lin Te-fu, on Wednesday.

Lin was responding to a question from lawmaker Wu Su-yao at the legislature’s Education and Culture Committee. Wu asked him to give a clear explanation of what sorts of items would be allowed at sporting venues, and what would be considered “politically sensitive.” Wu said it was important for Taiwan to make sure that, as the host nation, it did not create a stir at its own event.

When Wu asked if the nation’s flag would be allowed inside the venue as it was when Taipei hosted the Deaflympics in 2009, Lin said that would be acceptable.
