Taipei, Aug. 8 (CNA) The Food and Drug Administration said Friday that tests on sandwiches made by Taiwanese brand Horng Ryen Jen did not have salmonella after the company’s sandwiches left some people sick. The FDA said the tests only showed Staphylococcus aureuse, a bacteria that is commonly found in the environment but not generally harmful to people.

The FDA conducted the tests after Hong Kong authorities banned people from bringing Horng Ryen Jen sandwiches into the former British colony on Aug. 3 following reports that the sandwiches had made people sick.

A total of 84 people in Hong Kong had fallen sick after eating the sandwiches as of Aug. 6, according to Hong Kong authorities, but the FDA said it remains unclear what caused the problem.     [FULL  STORY]
