TAIPEI–Stricter water rationing measures officially began on Wednesday in the northern Taiwan areas of Hsinchu, Taoyuan and parts of New Taipei, with household water supplies reduced to five days a week on a rotational basis.

The water cuts first hit the Linkou (林口), Wugu (五股) and Taishan (泰山) districts of New Taipei, Hsinchu’s Hukou (湖口) and Xinfeng (新豐) townships, and the whole of Taoyuan. Water supplies to households in these areas will be stopped until midnight on Thursday.

A prolonged drought, the worst in Taiwan in 60-plus years, has forced the worst-affected cities and counties to enforce third-phase water rationing.     [FULL  STORY]
