President Tsai pays tribute to late U.S. surgeon Noordhoff

Taipei, Dec. 4 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) wrote a tribute to late American surgeon Samuel Noordhoff on her Facebook page Tuesday, expressing thanks for his 40 years of dedicated service in Taiwan.

The retired doctor, who passed away Monday in the United States at the age of 91, was the founder of the Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation in Taipei and was known in Taiwan by the Chinese name Luo Huei-fu (羅慧夫).

“You are forever our family,” Tsai said in her Facebook post.

Noordhoff practiced medicine for more than 40 years in Taiwan as a medical missionary and served as president of both Mackay Memorial Hospital and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.

In Tsai’s tribute to him, she said he was instrumental to the development of modern healthcare in Taiwan.    [FULL  STORY]
