Prosecutors on Friday arraigned builder of the collapsed Weiguan residential building and searched his residence to look into cause of the building collapse following an earthquake that rattled southern Taiwan on Feb. 6.

The district prosecutor’s office in the city of Tainan has earlier gained court approval for detaining Lin Ming-hui, builder of the Weiguan building, and architects Chang Kui-an and Cheng Chin-kui, who were suspected of having overseen shoddy construction of the 17-story Weiguan building, which crashed onto its side following the Feb. 6 earthquake.

The death toll in the 6.4 magnitude quake stood at 96 as of 3 p.m. on Friday, with all but two of the deaths coming from the building collapse. About 28 people are believed to still be trapped in the debris.     [FULL  STORY]
