Railroad lunch box festival makes appeal to nostalgia

Taipei, July 17 (CNA) A four-day festival on railroad lunch boxes that opened Friday is hoping 201507170017t0001to not only promote the food served on Taiwan’s trains but also appeal to nostalgia for an era when eating on the train was considered a treat.

The first Formosa Railroad Bento Festival is seeking to revive people’s memories of eating on a moving train during trips that offered memorable snapshots into their lives, said the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA), which is organizing the event.

Many Taiwanese have childhood memories of having lunch boxes on train trips, said TRA Director-General Chou Yung-hui (周永暉), who now wants to popularize railroad lunch boxes so that people no longer have to ride the train to enjoy the food.     [FULL  STORY]
