Sea warning for Typhoon Soudelor could be issued Thursday

Taipei, Aug. 3 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) reported Monday that Typhoon 201508030040t0001Soudelor has turned into a strong typhoon that could affect Taiwan area as early as Thursday.

The CWB said a sea warning for Typhoon Soudelor could be issued on Thursday at the earliest, with a land warning likely to ensue.

As of 8:00 p.m., according to the CWB, the typhoon’s center was located 2,200 km southeast of Taiwan, moving at a speed of 21 km per hour in the west-northwesterly direction as its storm radius had widened to 220 km.

If its direction remains unchanged, it will head toward the sea off Taiwan’s northern and northeast coasts, said the weather bureau, reminding people of its possible impacts on Friday and Saturday.
