Typhoon Chan-hom skirted northern Taiwan earlier in the day, according to the Central Emergency Operation Center.

Meanwhile, the first-degree red alert against mud and rock slide has been issued for six streams and rivers in Hsinchu County, while the second-degree yellow alert has been issued for 61 rivers and streams in Taoyuan, as well as in Hsinchu and Miaoli counties, the center reported.

Power is expected to be restored at 11:00 p.m. for 332 households in Taipei and New Taipei cities that suffered blackouts due to the impact of the typhoon, it said.     [FULL  STORY]
