BANGKOK — Liu Tsu-yuan (劉祖沅) of Taiwan fought through pain to win boys’ decathlon title Sunday at the Asian Youth Athletics Championships in Bangkok.
Having sustained an ankle injury during a high jump challenge the previous day, Liu showed tremendous willpower to complete the game, nabbing the gold with 5,982 points.
The silver medal went to India’s Mohit, who scored 5,976 points.
Liu has conquered quite a number of obstacles before coming to the final event — the 1,500-meter run, including breaking of his pole in the pole vault challenge earlier Sunday.
