Taiwan badminton duo clinch doubles title at International Challenge

Los Angeles, Dec. 23 (CNA) Taiwanese badminton partners and brothers Lu Chia-pin

(呂佳彬) and Lu Chia-hung (呂家弘) clinched the men’s doubles title at the 2018 Yonex/K&D Graphics International Challenge final in Orange County, the United States, Saturday.

The Lu brothers, who received support from Taiwanese compatriots in the audience, defeated the Phillip Chew and Ryan Chew from the U.S. in straight sets 21-18, 21-10.

“This is the biggest surprise just before Christmas,” Lu Chia-pin said after the event, with the brothers’ parents traveling overseas to watch them compete for the first time.

Also present were director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Los Angeles Chu Wen-shang (朱文祥) and head of the Culture Center of TECO Los Angeles Office in Santa Ana Yang Hai-hua (楊海華), who watched the Taiwanese lead throughout the match to defeat the Americans on their home court.
