TAIPEI, Taiwan — The 2016 Taiwan Cycling Festival has kicked off, promising lots of fun and excitement, including an international king of the mountain race up one of the highest peaks of the island.

In a press conference held Monday, Oct. 3 to announce the start of the festival, the organizers introduced the festival’s four major events: The Taiwan KOM (King of the Mountain) Challenge, the Formosa 900, the Come! Bikeday and the Taichung Bike Tour.

The event has been organized by the Tourism Bureau, the Taiwan Cyclist Federation, the Taiwan Bicycle Exporters’ Association and the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration.

The KOM challenge will see last year’s overall champion, Damien Monier, and women’s group winner, Eri Yonamine, return to defend their titles from challenges by some 600 other competitors from around the world.     [FULL  STORY]
