TAIPEI (CNA) – Taiwan has been selected as one of the world’s top 40 destinations in 2019 by the British newspaper The Guardian, which singled out Weiwuying (衛武營) in southern Taiwan’s Kaohsiung.

Encouraging travelers to go beyond Taipei in the north and explore different locations in Taiwan, the newspaper noted that the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) is the world’s largest single-roofed performing arts center.

The center has an opera house that features a backstage area for five simultaneous shows, an open air theater on the roof and a recital hall and concert hall with the largest organ in Asia, it said.

The Guardian also mentioned the 2019 Taiwan Lantern Festival, which will be held from Feb. 19 to March 3, the landscape in Kenting National Park in Pingtung, colorful temples, castles and small alleys in Tainan and the 939.5-kilometer cycle route around the island.
