Taipei, Sept. 13 (CNA) Taiwan clinched a recurve women’s team gold medal at an Archery World Cup event in Medellin, Colombia on Saturday with a dramatic victory over a somewhat diminished but still powerful South Korean team.
Seeded second after qualifying, the Taiwanese team consisting of Tan Ya-ting (譚雅婷), Le Chien-ying (雷千瑩) and Hsiung Mei-chien (熊梅茜) won close encounters over India and Mexico in earlier rounds to reach the final against the perennial powerhouse in the sport.
Taiwan would not face the top Korean archers because the official Korean national archery team was in Rio de Janeiro to prepare for an Olympic test event, but two of the members on the Korean team in the Medellin final were still good enough to finish first and second in the women’s individual event.
