Taipei, March 3 (CNA) Taiwanese Tsao Chun-yu (曹純玉) ran the 2019 Tokyo Marathon in a time of just over two hours and 36 minutes on Sunday, breaking a 15-year national record and finishing 17th in the women’s race.
Tsao broke the Taiwan record of 2:39:53 set by Hsu Yu-fang (許玉芳) in the 2004 Xiamen International Marathon.
After the Tokyo Marathon, Tsao said that while she did not achieve her personal goal of finishing under 2:35, she was pleased to have broken the national record for a female marathoner with her time of 2:36:14.
With that time, Tsao has also qualified for the 2019 World Athletics Championships, which will be held Sept. 27 to Oct. 6 in Doha, Qatar. [FULL STORY]
