valve switch to manual control when replacing a power supply unit, according to state-run oil refiner CPC Corp., Taiwan.
CPC Chairman Chen Chin-te (陳金德) held a news conference on Wednesday to announce the preliminary findings of a probe into the blackout that affected 6.68 million households the day before.
Because of the oversight, the new power unit caused the valves to shut automatically, disrupting the supply of natural gas to Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) and making it impossible for Tatan Power Plant to operate, Chen said.
He told reporters that the supply valves closed at 4:48 p.m. and reopened at 4:52 p.m. and that the supply of natural gas was entirely cut off for about two minutes.
