Budget airlines Thailand Vietjet Air and Thai Lion Air are set to begin flying to Taiwan this summer. That was the word from the Civil Aeronautics Administration on Saturday.

Thai Vietjet Air is slated to operate a series of forty charter flights between Bangkok and the Taiwanese cities of Taichung and Hualien. Services are expected to run from July to the end of September. Meanwhile Thai Lion Air is expected to begin a daily route between Bangkok and Taoyuan International Airport on August 1.

The two airlines join a growing list of low-cost carriers offering service between Taiwan and Southeast Asia. There has been increased demand for flights since last year, when the government began a year-long trial program offering visa-free entry to Thai nationals.    [FULL  STORY]
