and Green island will be canceled due to Typhoon Goni, which could threaten the area later this week, Taitung county government said Wednesday.

Ferry services between Taitung and Orchid island will be suspended from Thursday through Saturday, while those between Taitung and Green island will be suspended between Friday and Sunday.

Based on Goni’s current path, forecasters said it could spin north on Friday and travel all the way up along Taiwan’s eastern coast, bringing rain and gusty winds to the area where the islands are situated.

As of 2 pm Wednesday, Goni was some 890 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi, the southernmost tip of Taiwan, moving at a speed of 20 km becoming 13 km per hour in a westerly direction, according to the country’s Central Weather Bureau.     [FULL  STORY]
