Cathay grabs 10th championship in women’s basketball league

Taipei, June 21 (CNA) Cathay took home its 10th championship trophy Saturday after two straight wins against Taiyuan, which put up a strong defense that gave the most valuable player (MVP) title to someone who only returned to the Taiwan's Women Super Basketball League this season.

Following a landslide win on Friday, when Cathay beat Taiyuan in the first championship game 87-44, Taiyuan's strategy in the second game that might decide the title winner was to hold back Cathay's point guard Lin Yu-ting (林育庭).

Lin by herself notched up 20 points in Friday's game and has been seen as the player with the best chance of grabbing the MVP title.

On Saturday, however, she faced a strong defense and took only seven points, while her teammate Chen Yu-chun (陳鈺君) made 19 points, including six three-pointers.
