Kinmen to host two open swim events in late July

Taipei, July 5 (CNA) Two open water swim events will take place in Taiwan’s Kinmen County at the end of July, including one covering 7,000 meters from Lieyu Islet in the county to Xiamen in China, Kinmen County authorities announced Monday.

The swim between Kinmen and Xiamen will take place for an eighth year this year on July 31, and a total of 100 two-swimmer relay teams are expected to compete for total prize money of 300,000 Chinese yuan (US$44,984.89), the county government said.

The 7-kilometer race is held from Xiamen to Kinmen in odd-numbered years and from Kinmen to Xiamen even-numbered years.

The 100 teams, including 40 from Taiwan or composed of overseas Chinese, and 60 from China (including Hong Kong and Macau) were decided after a selection process in May.     [FULL  STORY]
