Taiwan’s new Central Bank governor, Yang Chin-long, was sworn into office on Monday.
Yang served as the deputy governor of the Central Bank for ten years before replacing Perng Fai-nan, who served as Central Bank governor for 20 years.
Yang said the bank’s current challenge is finding ways to maintain stable interest rates and keep the local currency value steady. That’s in light of the rapid movement of funds through the global market. Yang said this capital movement will affect the stability of small open economies and could cause crises in emerging markets.
Yang also said he will watch new developments in technology which could change the structure of the financial industry. [FULL STORY]
