New earthquake hits Tainan

Taipei, Feb. 10 (CNA) A new earthquake measuring 3.8 magnitude rocked Tainan in Wednesday morning amid ongoing relief operations being carried out there after a strong trembler jolted the southern Taiwan city on Saturday, according to the Central Weather Bureau.

The quake, which was centered 10.7 kilometers southeast of the Tainan City Hall in Gueiren District, took place at 3:56 a.m. at a depth of 31.1 kilometers, the Bureau said.

The earthquake’s intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was measured 1 in the city on Taiwan’s 7-tiered intensity scale. There were no immediate reports of major damage from the quake

Tainan was hit by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake on Feb. 6, which had killed 43 as of 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. At the same time, 216 have been rescued and 97 are still being trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings, according to figures released by the Tainan City government.      [FULL  STORY]
