Taiwanese teens win Sun Moon Lake 5000-meter swimming races

Taipei, Sept. 19 (CNA) Taiwanese teenagers Cho Chen-chi (卓承齊) and Su Shi-han (蘇詩涵) won the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively, of the First Sun Moon Lake Open Water Swimming Contest on Sunday.

Su, 19, set a record, winning the women’s division of the 5000-meter race in a time of 48 minutes, 16 seconds.

Cho, a 16-year-old high school student from Taipei, finished first in the men’s event over the same distance in a time of 45:45.

A regular swimmer since he was seven, Cho, won a gold medal in 2014 in the 1500-meter men’s free style competition at the Taiwan High School Games.

Since the Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival was launched at the scenic freshwater lake in central Taiwan in 1983, an increasing number of contestants from home and abroad have been participating in the event, swimming 3,000 meters from Choawu Pier (朝霧) to Ita Thao Wharf Pier (伊達邵).     [FULL  STORY]
