Businesses donate over US$1.4 million to Hualien earthquake relief

The Straits Exchange Foundation estimates that businesses from both sides of the Taiwan Strait have donated over NT$40 million (US$1.4 million) for earthquake relief in Hualien. The Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) is an organization that handles civilian exchanges with China in the absence of official government channels.

A powerful earthquake that rocked the east coast city of Hualien on February 6 left a total of 17 people dead. The dead included nine from mainland China.

Meanwhile, an association made up of both Chinese doctors and Taiwanese doctors based in China has donated an additional US$7,200 for people affected by the quake.
