Director, author and scriptwriter Wu Nien-jen and music producer Chen Ming-chang are coming together again after more than 30 years to produce a stage musical called Farewell Beitou.
Wu Nien-jen, one of Taiwan’s best storytellers, and music producer Chen Ming-chang will be cooperating together again after a hiatus of 32 years. It will however be their first time attempting a musical production.
Farewell Beitou stems from Chen’s love for his home district of Beitou in northern Taipei. He reminisces about the district’s old days when small restaurants would serve stir-fried dishes to accompany alcohol drinks, together with hot springs and nakasi — a popular music form from Japan associated with old tea parlors and bars.
