Several officials from Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ha Tinh local government witnessed the start of operation.

Taipei, May 19 (CNA) Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) was the third largest integrated circuit supplier in the world in the first quarter of the year, unchanged from recent quarters, according to market information advisory firm IC Insights.

A research report released by IC Insights showed TSMC posting first-quarter sales of US$8.47 billion, up 13 percent from a year earlier, to retain the No. 3 spot in the rankings.

TSMC was the only contract chipmaker listed in IC Insights’s first quarter rankings of the top 15 semiconductor suppliers.

If TSMC, the world’s largest pure-foundry operator, had been excluded from the list, Taiwan-based IC designer MediaTek Inc. would have been ranked 15th with total sales of about US$1.70 billion in the January-March period.    [FULL  STORY]

Date: 2018-05-18

Taiwanese business leaders shared their experiences of doing business in India at a forum in the country on Thursday. The forum is part of the 2018 Taiwan Expo in India organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

Joe Ko, the president of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Delhi, said India is not a country in which to make money quickly but one where large profits can be made through patience and persistence. Ko led his Victor Rackets company into the Indian sports equipment market four years ago.

A need for patience was also raised by Wang Han-chung of Delta Electronics. Wang said in India he needs to ask his employees continual questions to find out what is going on. He said Taiwanese businesses investing in India should be aware that doing business in India requires a different management style compared to doing business in Taiwan.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Terry Gou, chairman of Hon Hai Precision (trading as Foxconn), confirmed in a speech at China’s Tsinghua University on Wednesday that the company is building up a semiconductors team responsible for chip design and manufacturing to address massive demand for chips to be used in the company’s development of the industrial Internet of Things (IoT).

The company is said to be shaking the Apple shackles as merely a contract manufacturer, and is dedicated to transformation.

Global Unichip Corp (創意電子), which designs application-specific ICs (ASICs) used in cryptocurrency mining machines, is to accelerate hiring in China as Chinese customers are stepping up semiconductor investment amid growing concern about trade tensions between China and the US, a company executive said yesterday.

The Hsinchu-based company plans to more than triple its workforce in China to 150 people by the end of this year, from 45 people.

“China is showing strong investment momentum as it [intends to] adapt” to US President Donald Trump’s administration’s ever-changing trade policy, company president Ken Chen (陳超乾) said on the sidelines of the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting at its headquarters.

The expansion exceeds what was envisioned in the company’s five-year program unveiled in November last year.    [FULL  STORY]
