Their South Korean counterparts, on the other hand, are focusing on the development of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) products, reports the China Business Journal.

Chinese TV makers have emphasized the importance of smart TVs but have not achieved any major innovations that change how people watch TV. In fact, there are fewer TV viewers than ever before, said Liu Buchen, an industry observer who previously worked at Chinese electronics company TCL Corp.

Chinese flat panel makers have invested more in advanced 8.5- and 10.5-generation LCDs in recent years, whereas major LDC producers South Korea, Japan and Taiwan have stopped adding new capacity, Liu added.

On the other hand, South Korean display panel and electronics manufacturers Samsung and LG are both upgrading their panel production for OLED products and pushing an OLED industry alliance to introduce the technology to Chinese consumers.     [FULL  STORY]

The consumer price index (CPI) edged down 0.56 percent last month from the same period a year earlier as lower fuel prices continued to drag the inflationary gauge, the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) said yesterday.

The contraction appeared to have narrowed for two months, compared with the revised declines of 0.74 percent in May and 0.82 percent in April, as distortions from international crude oil prices taper off, the agency’s data showed.

Of the major consumption categories, transportation and communications costs reported the biggest decline of 5.41 percent last month from a year earlier, as fuel prices fell by 23.19 percent.     [FULL  STORY]

That translated to a loss of NT$9.7 per share, hitting the low end of the company’s forecast, which ranged from NT$9.7 to NT$9.94 per share. HTC attributed the loss to a one-off NT$2.9 billion impairment for idled assets and some prepaid expenses.
