Sunday for a total of 15-under 273 to win the LPGA Tour Championship Ricoh Cup in Japan, her fourth win this year.

Lu carded 68, 68 and 67 in the first three rounds, scoring two birdies in the final round Sunday, totaling 273 to finish four shots ahead of South Korean Lee Min-young and win 25 million Japanese yen (US$ 224,180) in prize money.

It was her fourth title of the year on the Ladies Professional Golfers’ Association of Japan tour, following wins at the Studio Alice Women’s Open in April, Nichirei Ladies in June and the Fujitsu Ladies in October.

claiming the men’s title on an away goal advantage and Taichung Blue Whale capturing the women’s championship trophy with a 2-0 victory.

Both teams had a fighting chance in the men’s Taiwan Football Premier League final on Saturday, with Taipei-based Tatung hosting Kaohsiung-based Taipower for the second leg of their championship matches.

In the first leg in Kaohsiung on Saturday last week, the two sides fought to a 1-1 draw, with midfielder Lin Chien-hsun converting a penalty for the home team and Taipei-Tatung replying with a late goal headed in by defender Chen Wei-jen after a cross supplied by striker Marc Fenelus.

Leading into the second game at a disadvantage due to the away-goal rule, Kaohsiung knew they had to score at least one goal or win at Taipei Municipal Stadium to seal the victory.    [FULL  STORY]

on a sour note when Australia ran riot in a 104-66 victory at the Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium.

There were high hopes for a good result, with Taiwanese fans packing the venue as the nation hosted its first Asian World Cup qualifier since 1963.

However, the fans left disappointed after the heavy defeat, as the Australia players took advantage of their height advantage and physicality to shred Taiwan’s defense as the visitors pulled away to a 45-26 halftime lead.

29th Summer Universiade Games in Taipei while simultaneously breaking the world record, is set to appear on the cover of the 142nd edition of the World Weightlifting Magazine.

The cover photo which has appeared on the 142nd edition of the World Weightlifting Magazine, issued by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), is the close-up taken after she had won gold at the Summer Universiade Games earlier this year.

Below the photo reads, “Kuo Hsing-Chun, TPE, 142kg, Clean and Jerk in 58kg: The year’s first and so far only women’s world record was set by the local favorite at the Taipei2017 Universiade.”

The 2017 Weightlifting World Championships will take place in Anaheim, U.S. from the 28th of November to the 5th of December. Team Taiwan will consist of seven female athletes and five male athletes, including Kuo Hsingchun and Hsu Shuching, lead by coach Tsai Wenyi.    [FULL  STORY]

Embattled AIBA president steps down

Boxing Association (AIBA), officially stepped down from his post on Monday, following allegations of financial mismanagement and a vote of no-confidence which led to his suspension in October.

The Taiwanese official, who has served as AIBA president since 2006, released a joint statement with AIBA saying that he has decided to step down “for the sport I love and have dedicated my life to.”

During an interview with CNA, Wu clarified what he meant by stepping down for the sake of boxing, saying that “it was time to stop (with the trials) for the sake of boxing’s future.”

Wu was at the center of one of the biggest scandals in AIBA’s history, in which he was accused of abuse of power and financial mismanagement, which allegedly landed the organization with US$10 million worth of debt.   [FULL  STORY]

American runner wins Penghu cross-sea marathon men’s event

Taipei, Nov. 19 (CNA) Jorge Maravilla of the United States won a men’s marathon that attracted 355 foreign and local runners on Taiwan’s outlying archipelago of Penghu in the Taiwan Strait on Sunday.

Maravilla, from California, also won the 2017 San Francisco marathon and has qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020. He finished the 42.195-kilometer race in 2 hours, 43 minutes and 7 seconds, according to the organizers.

Japanese Teruto Taya came second, 24 seconds behind Maravilla.

In the women’s event, Taiwan’s Hu Ching-ting (胡靜婷) finished first in 3:30:42.

Blue Whales inch toward championship

Taichung Blue Whale on Saturday took a step closer to the trophy with a 1-0 win over Taipei PlayOne in the playoffs of Taiwan’s top soccer league.

Defender Tuan Yu-jou scored on a header in the 31st minute, but neither could connect on further chances.

On the men’s side, Taipower-Kaohsiung fought to a 1-1 draw against Tatung-Taipei in the title showdown between this year’s top two sides.

The trophies are to be determined by a two-leg series, the first of which was held on Saturday at Kaohsiung National Stadium.

The second match is to be held next weekend at Taipei Municipal Stadium.

Taiwanese starter Chen Kuan-yu (陳冠宇), who pitches professionally for the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan, gave up a two-out walk to Kim Ha-seong and a run-scoring triple to right on a hanging breaking ball to Lee Jung-hoo.

Lee’s deep fly ball just eluded the outstretched glove of Taiwanese right-fielder Chen Tzu-hao (陳子豪) and bounced off the right-field wall away from Chen, who fell to the ground. By the time Chen retrieved the ball, it was too late to prevent Kim from scoring.
