Taipei, Aug. 28 (CNA) Taiwanese athlete Chen Kuei-ru (陳奎儒) won a silver medal after finishing the men’s 110-meter hurdles at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta Tuesday with a time of 13.39 seconds.

The last time an athlete from Taiwan took a medal in this event at the Asian Games was 48 years ago, achieved by Li Chung-ping (李忠平) in 1970 who won silver in Bangkok.

“When I glimpsed the Chinese runner closing in on me, I knew it (the gold) was gone,” Chen said, telling reporters jokingly that he was about to leap for the finish line but was already weak at the knees.

Chen sped off the starting line and remained at the front until the 10th hurdle, when he was overtaken by Xie Wenjun of China, who went on to win gold with a time of 13.34 seconds.
