Taipei, Dec. 29 (CNA) AU Optronics Corp. (AUO, 友達), a Taiwanese leading flat panel maker, reported Tuesday that one of its plants recycled all the water used in the production process, becoming the first plant in Taiwan to have achieved the goal of zero waste water release.
AUO Chairman Paul Peng (彭双浪) said its Longtan plant in Taoyuan achieved the goal of zero waste water release in September.
In 2020, the amount of waste water released from all of its plants will be cut a further 30 percent, Peng said.
Michael Tsai (蔡國新), manager of the AUO, said that due to global climate change, Taiwan was concerned about water shortage in the first half of the year and experienced floods in some areas after typhoons in the second half of the year, demonstrated the importance of water resource management.
