The Brothers Baseball Club on Friday night won the first-half season title in the CPBL by defeating
the EDA Rhinos 7-5 in Taichung, securing their league-best 32 wins against 20 losses for this year’s campaign thus far.
After the game, most of the near-capacity audience at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium tossed yellow streamers — the Brothers’ traditional club color — in the air in local baseball title-winning celebration.
By winning the first-half title, the Brothers secured a berth at the end-of-season championship finals, the Taiwan Series, in which they are to face the winner of the second-half title.
Players and club officials congratulated each other after the game, with some joining fans for selfies.
The joyous mood was in sharp contrast with the downcast atmosphere earlier this week, when team owner Jeffrey Koo Jr was summoned for questioning and released on NT$100 million (US$3.1 million) bail, while CTBC Financial Holding offices were raided in connection with an investigation into financial irregularities.
