Taiwan Stock Market Due For Profit Taking

RTT News
Date: 10/6/2015

The Taiwan stock market has finished higher now in six straight sessions, advancing almost 270 points or 3.5 percent in that span. The Taiwan Stock Exchange now rests just shy of the 8,400-point plateau, although investors figure to lock in gains on Wednesday.

The global forecast for the Asian markets suggests consolidation on profit taking following the rallies seen in recent days, while apprehension ahead of earnings season adds to the soft sentiment. The European markets were higher and the U.S. bourses were mostly lower, and the Asian markets figure to follow the latter lead.

The TSE finished modestly higher on Tuesday following gains from the technology stocks and the plastics companies.

For the day, the index perked 41.74 points or 0.50 percent to finish at 8,394.10 after trading between 8,390.89 and 8,482.83 on turnover of 99.62 billion Taiwan dollars.     [FULL  STORY]

Taiwan September shipments tumble more than expected

The Star Online
Date: 8 October 2015

TAIPEI: Trade-reliant Taiwan on Wednesday effectively wrote off any chances of a global export recovery this year after its September shipments tumbled more than expected, with weakening in all of its major markets, particularly China.

Exports sank last month for the eighth month in a row and at the second-fastest pace in over two years, reinforcing the rationale behind the central bank’s decision to cut interest rates last month for the first time since the global crisis.

The dismal report will reinforce signs of a growing chill in global demand. Taiwan is a major exporter of electronics and parts for gadgets like smartphones, which are usually in strong demand heading into the year-end shopping season.

September exports, however, showed a further deterioration in demand rather than any signs of a seasonal bounce, falling 14.6% from a year ago, worse than expectations for an 11.6% decline in a Reuters poll.     [FULL  STORY]

three, indicating that the country has been successful in developing the business model for retail transactions, according to the Taiwan Internet and E-Commerce Association (TiEA, 台灣網路暨電子商務產業發展協會).

Addressing the opening ceremony of E-Commerce Expo Asia 2015, Jan Hung-tze (詹宏志), head of the TiEA, said Tuesday that e-commerce now accounts for more than 11 percent of Taiwan’s total retail revenue, a penetration rate that trails only South Korea and the United Kingdom, but leads the United States and China.

Jan, who is also chairman of PChome Online Inc. (網路家庭), a leading e-commerce operator in Taiwan, said that Taiwan is a success story for e-commerce business development and he expressed hope that this achievement will be recognized in the global market.

Jan said that e-commerce is very popular in Taiwan. He added that while the country lacks large-sized e-commerce operators — defined as those that have market capitalization surpassing US$1 billion, its nearest small- and medium-sized corporate participants have helped the sector grow rapidly.     [FULL  STORY]
