Asian Games- Taiwanese shuttler Tai Tzu-ying clinches badminton women’s singles gold medal

JAKARTA(Taiwan News)- World No.1 badminton player Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) representing Chinese Taipei in the 2018 Asian Games clinches the women’s singles title earlier this afternoon, beating 2016 Rio Olympics Silver medalist India”s shuttler Pusarla Sindhu 21-13, 21-16.

Tai got off to a good start and dominated throughout the match, which paved her way to the gold medal in 34 minutes in the game. She had won 10 out of 13 games that they played against in Tai’s athletic career. This is also Tai’s sixth consecutive win over Pusarla Sindhu.

Asian Games: Taiwanese hurdler bags silver in 110-meter hurdles

Taipei, Aug. 28 (CNA) Taiwanese athlete Chen Kuei-ru (陳奎儒) won a silver medal after finishing the men’s 110-meter hurdles at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta Tuesday with a time of 13.39 seconds.

The last time an athlete from Taiwan took a medal in this event at the Asian Games was 48 years ago, achieved by Li Chung-ping (李忠平) in 1970 who won silver in Bangkok.

“When I glimpsed the Chinese runner closing in on me, I knew it (the gold) was gone,” Chen said, telling reporters jokingly that he was about to leap for the finish line but was already weak at the knees.

Chen sped off the starting line and remained at the front until the 10th hurdle, when he was overtaken by Xie Wenjun of China, who went on to win gold with a time of 13.34 seconds.

and Chou Tien-chen came away with silver after losing in the men’s singles final in the Jakarta Asian Games.

Tai’s finish pushed Taiwan’s gold medal count to 13, while Chou and 110m hurdler Chen Kuei-ru boosted the silver count to 14.

It was a worthy gold-medal match between world No. 1 Tai and world No. 2 P.V. Sindhu of India.

Tai easily grabbed the first set 21-13, but Sindhu fought back in a see-saw battle for the second set, before Tai prevailed down the stretch 21-16.    [FULL  STORY]

The Taiwanese pair won a silver medal in the women’s double tennis match.

Asian Games: Taiwan wins silver in women’s weightlifting

Taipei, Aug. 25 (CNA) Taiwan’s Hung Wan-ting (洪萬庭) won the silver medal in the women’s 69-kilogram weightlifting final at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta on Saturday.

Hung completed a 103 kg snatch and a 130 kg clean and jerk, finishing with a combined total of 233 kg, behind Rim Un-sim of North Korea, who won gold with 246 kg.

In archery, Taiwanese archers Tang Chih-chun (湯智鈞), Wei Chun-heng (魏均珩) and Luo Wei-min (羅偉旻) had an easy victory against Mongolia, winning 6-0 in the recurve men’s team semifinals on Saturday. The team will now faces South Korea for the gold on Aug. 27.

Meanwhile, Taiwanese Lei Chien-ying (雷千瑩), Peng Chia-mao (彭家楙) and Tan Ya-ting (譚雅婷) beat the Chinese team 5-3 to reach the recurve women’s team final.    [FULL  STORY]

Wang Yi-ta received the silver medal in the men’s Kata after losing 5-0 in the final to Japan’s Kiyuna Ryo at the Jakarta Convention Center.

Wang reached the final after victories over Hong Kong’s Cheng Tsz Man Chris, South Korea’s Park Hee-jun and Macau’s Kuok Kin Hang earlier in the day, winning the bouts 4-1, 4-1 and 3-2 respectively.

In the women’s 69kg weightlifting, Hung Wan-ting won silver with a lift of 103kg and a clean and jerk of 130kg. Her 233kg total was enough to edge South Korea’s Mun Yu-ra on 231kg, but was no challenge for the 246kg of gold medalist Rim Un-sim of North Korea.    [FULL  STORY]

Asian Games: Taiwan ranks ninth in medal count as of Friday

Team Taiwan had won 23 medals in the 2018 Asian Games, which are being held in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang Aug. 18-Sept. 2, as of Friday, ranking ninth in the medal count of the regional sports event.

Taiwan’s medal haul includes five golds, seven silvers and 11 bronzes, according to data on the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games website.

China was the biggest winner as of 7:30 p.m. Friday, with 133 medals, including 63 golds, followed by Japan with 99 medals (29 golds) and South Korea with 73 medals (20 golds).

overwhelmed a duo from Kazakhstan on Friday to reach the finals of the women’s doubles in tennis at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.

The top-seeded Chan sisters made quick work of Kazakhs Gozal Ainitdinova and Anna Danilina, beating them 6-0, 6-0 in just 50 minutes to set up a final against the second seeds, Xu Yifan (徐一璠) and Yang Zhaoxuan (楊釗煊) of China.

Latisha Chan expressed satisfaction with their performance Friday and credited their dominance to a successful game plan she and her sister worked out before the match after scouting their opponents a day earlier.

the nation’s best-ever showing in men’s gymnastics at an Asian Games, lifting Taiwan’s medal haul to six gold, seven silver and 12 bronze at the Games in Indonesia.

In the final round, Tang scored 8.725 in execution and 6.000 in difficulty for a combined 14.725 points, surpassing China’s Sun Wei at 14.500 and Xiao Ruoteng at 14.225.

It was Tang’s second medal at this year’s Games, following a silver in the men’s floor exercise on Thursday.

Combined with Lee Chih-kai’s gold in the pommel horse and Chen Chih-yu’s bronze in rings, Taiwan garnered two gold, one silver and one bronze in men’s artistic gymnastics.
