When the referee blew his whistle at the end of the match, the Taiwan players surrounded White and his fellow assistant coaches from England, sharing warm embraces, while the fans also stood to thank White for a job well done.

The match started out tentatively for both sides, as a late afternoon thunderstorm drenched the pitch, leaving it water-logged, slowing the pace of the game.

Taiwan gradually began to impose their game on the opposition and it paid off when they scored the opening goal in the 13th minute.    [FULL  STORY]

In a Facebook post, Lai said he was deeply moved by the all-out effort given by Taiwanese athletes at the Asian Games in Indonesia, which saw Taiwan rank 7thout of 45 participating countries on the medal table, hauling 17 golds, 19 silvers, and 31 bronzes.

The international sports event has provided insight into three perspectives, Lai noted.
